After Garappolo threw a pick, the momentum shifted huge on the other side. It was like an avalanche and we were holding on for dear life. Frankly, I hate to say it, but if the Cowboys weren't dumb and managed the clock better, they would have probably scored on the last drive. The football gods had some mercy

This defense falls apart regularly when teams abandon the run and just start bombing on them late.
It's a personnel issue with the current CB situation and the lack of a second quality and consistent edge across from Bosa.
On the offense, Shanahan goes into a shell far too often if he has a lead. McVay does the same thing, leading to wholly unproductive drives late.
Also the OL regularly struggles to hold up in pass protection. Garoppolo did a lot to help them out last night by moving around and making some quick throws but that right side is a sieve.

Its funny that despite Shanahan being a top offense coach he seems to trust his defense more then the offense.

Uh, didn't we win the game?!
The simple answer is that all teams struggle to close out games. The rules are set so that when in 4 down territory the offense has a huge advantage over the defense, that's why there are so many close games across the league.
Parity is created for entertainment.
Running out the clock is especially difficult when the D knows you'll be running, and have seen your best run plays all game. The Deebo call at the end of the game is one of the best play calls I can remember.
Also Kyle gets criticized when he does try to throw late, and has random things happen like bat downs and missed blocks, what's he supposed to do?

It's a combination but if I had to nail it down to one thing, it's the kill shot. In some of these big situations, they kill shot has been there and we just miss it. Which is partially why they traded up for Trey Lance as well as Jimmy G's health. Definitely something to work on going forward.
I agree with the rules being an issue. My biggest fear was a bogus PI call and first down inside the 5 or some crap like that. I don't have an issue with Kyle's playcalling this game. My biggest issue with the game was Jimmy (interception, missing Aiyuk, and Jimmy snapping the ball before Trent Williams set), Josh Norman, and a slight issue letting the Cowboys get out of bounds at the end of the game. But the game is completely different if Jimmy changes any one of those decisions or if Josh Norman doesn't do Josh Norman things. Either way, this win is much sweeter. We have some things to clean up and we broke Dallas's hearts in the worst way. Beautiful!!
I trust that we will improve because we have seen problem areas improve. Our run D improved by leaps and bounds. Our big play ability has improved. Our pass D has improved. Our pass rush has improved. If we make the right moves this week and in the offseason, our ability to close out games will be better in 2022.

Imagine starting a thread on not closing out games after we won our two biggest games of the year back to back

If we're being team-focused, objective and honest, here's your list. You can literally apply this to every single game and list the issue for that game. Try it.
Sometimes they'll improve upon it from the previous week, continue the issue or magnify the issue.
Team Weakneses:
Sometimes they'll improve upon it from the previous week, continue the issue or magnify the issue.
Team Weakneses:
- Pass interference
- Defense can't generate TO's
- Defense fails late quickly in games and after going up double digits
- Defense struggles taking a team's best player away
- 3rd down pass defense
- Defense piss poor tackling (and technique) at times
- Offense missed a big opportunity/play
- Offensive TO's lead to points the other way
- Offensive TO's take points off the board
- Offensive penalties at crucial times (false starts, holdings, delays, etc.)
- Receiver drops
- Boneheaded team penalties at key moments
- Kyle is bipolar with play calling
- Kyle struggles with clock management at times
- Kyle gets too cute or too conservative at times
- Slow starts; poor second half adjustments
- Must run 35+ times to have a chance to win
- Unit pass protection - Colton McKivitz, Tom Compton & Daniel Brunskill (RB's, FB and TE's)
- Too many key injuries at key positions at key times
- SpecialED teams

It def comes down to Jimmy and Shanahan,
One Jimmy needs to know you can throw a ball away. Better to lose a down than lose the possession.
But also Shanahan trying to get fancy, stick to the run.
Yesterdays game was way more stressful than it needed to be.

lol how is QB not one of the options? Make that one play to Ayiuk and no one is talking about this. Don't throw that late INT and no one is talking about this.
And end of the day Dallas is a damn good team, they have studs all over the place and it was a road game in the playoffs.
Got the W and onto GB!
