I'm all about paying to keep your homegrown talent. That's priority one.
However the last couple of big payday contracts the Niners have given out hasn't necessarily played out the best for them because the players play solid but not at top of their position like their new contracts paid.
kittle had a career year and then get his second contract at the top of the TE market. He's been good and a leader but I could argue he hasn't played to his new contract level.
fred Warner had a career year last year and got paid. This year he was good but not elite like his previous years. He got no recognition from even the fan pro bowl voting.
Deebo is having a career year. Can he really do it again? And we will probably be paying him top wr money.

So you think it would be better to not have Kittle, Warner and Deebo?

Just because Kittle hasn't been filling up the stat sheet doesn't mean he's been worth every penny. Our run game runs behind him.
Yes, Warner has had a down year, but not only has it just been one season, it's one injury plagued year too. I fully expect him to bounce back next year after healing up in the off season.
You absolutely pay Deebo. You're only discussing how much, not if you should or should not.

Of course not. Little and Warner were both still under contract for another year. We probably should have let them play on that last year. Both regressed and we could have saved some money.

Kittle hasn't played at that level? Based on what?
Warner admittedly hasn't played up to his standards. I expect a bounce back.
We could try the AA route and wait until they hit free agency. How did that work out? We could've had him for half the amount were he extended after 2018. Then there is the Buckner situation. This is some scared thinking.

So risk having them test Free Agency or use a tag to keep them? Agents and players aren't going to be like well this year my client had a down year after he was all pro so we will give you a 25% discount. That's not how it works

Kittle hasn't been needed in the passing game as much.
Warner has a new D coordinator. Could be using him differently than Saleh.
Lots of factors to consider than stats and pro bowl votes.
What if Kyle doesn't use Deebo as much as a RB next year after Lance takes over?
It's a worthy topic if it was truly that these players are regressing.

So, are we still seriously considering not paying Deebo?
