Great break down

I agree that this game is going to come down to us being able to run the ball effectively and use short passes over the middle to keep moving the chains. I have faith in our defense to do its job, and now have some faith in ST to make impact plays. Cupp is going to get his similar to how Adams did last game, but we just need to hold tight in the red zone.

Niners win, 24-17

Will this be the first time since the playoffs started?

I just want to know who to blame if things don't go our way on Sunday.

Question for you, Jonny!

Since Deebo has been lining up a lot at RB in the back half of the season, has he actually been running a lot of RB routes in the passing game?
I don't recall seeing him pick up a lot of receptions that way, but the Texas concept we ran at the end of the Packers game was a key reception.

I could totally see us trying to attack the Rams linebackers in that way.
IIrc Deebo has never not gotten the ball when he lined up in the backfield which makes his success as a RB even more impressive. I could see Shanahan changing that for this game.

He hasn't. I think a lot of it is time on task. That role was meant for McKinnon/Hurd/Mostert. That's who's gotten all the practice reps at that for the past 3 years. Deebo going there was born out of necessity and so he didn't get any training camp or mini camp reps at it. He's learning some of these routes he's never run before on the fly.

Ahhh.. I figured that's what it was. It's pretty insane that he even gets so many runningback carries, despite never formally playing runningback. But it's been a natural learning progression. First, he was just running outside plays... and then when defenses started to defend for that, they started running more inside plays.

It was kind of cool to see Bobby Turner talking to him in the Dallas game, just praising him for how he read the play on his big TD run. I just get the sense that Coach Turner has been giving him very valuable coaching on running those plays.

Do you think the 49ers should explore having him branch out more as a RB in the offseason?

I think he'll end up in that hybrid role. He's obviously flourishing and able to handle it so keep it rolling.

AGree JD and Wubbie, I'd love for Deebo to be that Hybrid guy that can switch between HB and WR. Now having said that, we need a backup Hybrid Offensive Weapon, if we're going to design the offense around a guy like Deebo long term. Aiyuk? Jennings? Draft Pick? or Free agent? I say long term, that WideBack position should have a nice backup behind Deebo just in case he needs a week or two off for health reasons.

I guess my opinion is, we've also been successful without it. The bigger thing, is do we have multiple guys who can make the run game click? If we got Mostert and Mitchell? Sure. How does Sermon fit in there?

Deebo is there. We have options and won't be pigeon holed.

I don't wear any niner gear on Sundays because I don't want to jinx the team.
Thanks for another insightful video, JD. Always enjoy your work!
