So we had legit chances of getting TWO HOF QBs, and passed up on them because....

Anyways, can't wait till trey starts. Go 9ers and Jimmy g on Sunday!

I would put Kyle on the list too, for the Brady stuff... but he was able to get Trey and Brady was older at least.

I'll bite.

To be fair to Shanahan/Lynch, after we made it to the Super Bowl, do you sign the GOAT and conceivably it's a year-to-year thing because you never know when he'll retire and/or Father Time catches up to him?

But to entertain the thought exercise... suppose we signed Tom for 2020 and dealt Jimmy away... Brady would've been on a team decimated by injuries. Sure, you can never count out Brady, but would've been a tough year for him. As amazing as he is, he's not infallible.

Going into the offseason, we wouldn't have traded up for Lance, but perhaps drafted an impact player in the 1st and then maybe Mills, Trask, Mond as the QB of the future in Round 2 or 3? So, continuing on, we would've rolled into 2021 with this team, and I think we'd be in the same place as we are now, competing for a Super Bowl. Certainly, I'd feel a lot more confident with Brady at QB than Jimmy... but I also feel good knowing that we have Trey waiting in the wings and our team is set-up well for the future.

No guarantee that happens though my friend. Not saying all those injuries are Jimmy's fault (besides hospital passes)... but all those players would not have been in the exact same positions where they got injuried.

Sure that also means there could have been MORE injuries... or hell Brady could have been injured.

But I'm just saying, there is no guarantee that Brady would have went through the same s**t.

Cool, an entire thread about being angry.

I'm sure there are competent defensive minds who can make better decisions than some OCs, when it comes to QBs.

But it goes back to ego and stubbornness, imo. Getting the right minds around you, if you're not sure what to do.

Thats why you have an Offensive minded Head Coach and a defensive minded GM. Best of both worlds.

Actually, Mike Nolan and Scot McCloughan seemed to put together a pretty good roster. Yes, Alex Smith is NOT Aaron Rodgers, but he still had the potential to be a good QB. 2006 was a very promising year for the 49ers, they went 7-9 and Alex Smith was showing promise in his second year. Leaguewide, people were saying Nolan was the right guy for the job and excited for us to return to prominence. Then in the offseason, we drafted Joe Staley, Patrick Willis, Ray McDonald, Dashon Goldson, and Tarrell Brown. And then Nolan hired Jeff Hostler to replace Norv Turner and then publicly threw Alex Smith under the bus after Alex got injured.

Mike Nolan's fatal errors were (1) he could not create any offensive continuity for Alex Smith... different offensive coordinators with different systems every year, and (2), he mishandled Alex Smith's injury. Seriously, Alex Smith is possibly one of the toughest players to ever play in this league and Nolan questioned the severity of Alex's shoulder injury.

And as for Mike Singletary... ugh. Yeah. No bueno there.
Actually I didn't expect this thread to last that long, so lock it any time.

That news today just blew my mind.

You would think Trent Baalke would have told Sing to .
