At what salary would you be OK keeping Jimmy for 2022?

Ok, this is assuming no one trades for Jimmy and the Niners stay firm about not releasing him. They never said anything about restructuring/pay cut.

For reference, Bridgewater has a $6.5M cap hit this year—the highest for a backup QB. By a good margin. Also for reference, Trey's cap hit is $7.8M.

I can't imagine Jimmy wanting to stay, but if he sees this as his best opportunity to play and make some money, who knows. But what's a fair price for someone who may or may not compete, may not play at all, or may play a ton if Trey struggles!

Maybe $7M, with bonuses for starting games that could bring the total value around $10M? That's still a $15M+ cap savings that can be rolled over to 2023.

I know this topic will get absurd responses, but hoping we could discuss fair compensation for a former starting QB, but now a backup.

I don't want him on the team. I don't hate him, but any bad pass or mistake people will whisper about jimny

Players don't just take less money because they are asked to unless there was an incentive in doing so.
10-12 Mil would be reasonable.
He should pay us.

The market for starting QB's has dried up. That would be the biggest.

Being a backup QB won't earn him a bigger check next summer. He'll be better off getting cut and joining Seahawks or Panthers and try to win the starting job even if he is getting paid less this season.

This and this, surely we've got enough Jimmy threads?
They'll keep him at 27 mill. They're too scared to let him go to Seattle. Lets just call it for what it is.

I mean can you even imagine? Seattle sweeps us in the division again, but they have Jimmy G instead and hes just handing the ball off and checking down. Lynch will lose his job the next day.

And I am bullish on Lance for the record.

edit:

also, yeah. Hes not taking a paycut just to be a "team guy". That's just laughable. We have an inflation problem in this country. No one should be taking a paycut in any job

The OP's scenario was if the Niners stay firm on not releasing him. That was what I was going off.

Free is to expensive
Salary is only half of the issue. If we keep Jimmy as a back up, how will it affect the locker room?
