Yup the lack of confidence in Trey is telling. He'll be fine. This is football. Every...single... position... including Jimmy last year has guys trying to take their jobs. If Trey can't handle it, were in a world of trouble.

I think he can though. Others seem to think he's soft.

LOL if you want to pretend that's what this is about, have at it. Simply the truth is no team in the NFL that has a "competition" at the QB position is setup to be a contender. If you have a competition, you don't have a starter. Period. Lance needs ALL of the 1st team reps. Jimmy needs to go be a starter somewhere else to get a new contract. It's bad for both.

Nothing to do with being soft. Only one being soft is you and your hopes and dreams of Jimmy still starting in SF

Man, Rack is in love with Jimmy.

There is absolutely no reason to have Jimmy be here...none. The money alone is enough to get him out of here. Having a $27M backup QB, when you got guys that want and need to get paid? Why would players be cool with that?

Jimmy doesn't want to be a backup either, he needs to start so he can get a legit contract in 2023. Trey NEEDS all the 1st team reps. ALL OF THEM. You can't split reps with these guys....name me a team in today's football that had a legit QB competition that were contenders? That s**t doesn't happen at the QB position. You have your starter or you don't. period. This isn't a competition to see will be the starting RG or nickel DB. Let's stop being dumb about it just because you have feeling about Jimmy.

DeBerg had Montana behind him. In 1981 when Walsh made Joe the starter, DeBerg was traded to the Broncos. Joe's backup was Guy Benjamin. Brady replaced Bledsoe when he got injured and Bledsoe never got the job back.

There's a reason walsh and belichek stuck with Montana and Brady, and it wasn't to keep from getting theor feelings hurt. They played and won. Trey just needs to do the same. Winners win, no matter what. Look at russel wilson. Seahwaks gave Flynn a big contract. Rookie Wilson came in and took his job. Lance just needs to do his thing and not worry about who's behind him.

It's so painfully obvious and silly.

Ill give you 3 reasons. Our offensive line, Lance getting hurt twice in limited playing time, and nate sudfeld.

Bledsoe was traded once Brady was the starter...he wasn't Brady's backup.

Name me a backup QB making $27M a legit backup who was the backup from the beginning.....name me a team that's gonna win a ton of games with their backup QB tight now anyway? It's stupid and you know it. It's dumb for Jimmy, Lance's growth, and for the team overall.

The people wanting Jimmy to stay on the team are the same people crying about SF not doing enough in FA lol.

Ive already said Jimmy needs to go. Specifically because of the cap. Nothing else. Of course it would be nice to have a quality backup, but its not feasible.

I'm arguing with the posters that want him gone because of the pressure on Trey.

Jimmy gone because of cap issues? Absolutely. Jimmy gone because hes taking snaps away from Lance and hurting his development? Not really if Shanahan doesn't give any first team reps to Jimmy. that would be stupid. Jimmy gone because it would hurt treys feelings? No no no. This is the NFL.

He will be right there to point fingers and call out Lance any moment he makes a young rookie mistake...you better believe that.

I want this to be Trey's team, much like this was Jimmy's team last yr. That means 1st string reps go to Trey. The team knows who's the starter and will be the starter going forward. No locker room nonsense or people trying to push for Jimmy every moment Lance makes a young QB mistake. I want him to have the team built around him and support him, not have the "option" to go in another direction just because.

No one is talking about hurting Lance's feelings...no one. It's the dynamics of the situation as a whole from the players to the fans. It's a dumb scenario IMO and there's no reason to make it that way.
If we are intent on keeping Jimmy (which I disagree with), then his value would be maximum backup QB money… maybe $8-10M. At that value, he's also have much better trade value. But why would Jimmy agree to this. I feel like he could get that level of contract elsewhere, especially SEA.

If Jimmy was never the starting QB of the 49ers with 4 years of history, I'd love to have him be the backup. But that's not the case, there is history. For all we know there are players that prefer Jimmy over Lance, and having that cloud hang over the lockerroom will be drama if/when Lance struggles.
