I'm their primes, who was the better pass rusher out of these two

Hard to say. Was Aldon ever held like Bosa is?
If I needed 1 pass rush to end a game I'd probably take peak nondrunk Aldon
Aldon first two seasons with us. 33.5 sacks
Bosa first two seasons with us. 24.5 sacks

Aldon most likely would have broken the NFL record at some point If not for his Issues.
Bosa is still in his prime so this topic is a little early. The arguments might be close now but in a couple of years Bosa could easily be the better of the two.

It's not even close IMO.... Bosa is the better player, but Aldrunk was just the better pass rusher EARLY..

Aldon got to play next to Justin Smith who contributed greatly to his success. He was very good, but as soon as he was no longer next to JS, he wasn't nearly the player that he had been.

Aldon was a freak, but he also had the advantage of playing next to Cowboy. Justin smith took on double teams and held them so aldon could get free. Now Bosa is consistently doubled and still gets home. Could you imagine the cowboy and bosa playing next to each other?

Tough call. I'll say Aldon but then you have to consider that his prime was really short. I'd take Haley over both of them. Then I might take Cedrick Hardman over Haley.

Personally Fred Dean and Gary Johnson were like Joe Kleco and Mark Gastineau of the 49ers. Hope Bosa and Kinlaw will be just as effective as these guys.

Smith helped for sure, but when Aldon was winning his 1on1 battles very well, or dominated OL at times, pushes them into the ground...That has nothing to do with Smith there.

And he wasn't near the same player then bc of his alcohol issues.

Bosa is close to being that good of a player, but he isn't as of now. But I'll take his production + non off the field issues, even if he isn't as dominant as Aldon was at times.

Exactly. The people who argue that Aldon was only good because of Justin have no clue what they're talking about. The only aspect of Justin argument that makes sense is that Justin helped Aldon get more 1-on-1s. That's true. But when Aldon is 1-on-1 with the left tackle and smoking them out of their cleats, that has absolutely nothing to do with Justin Smith. And miss me with the plays where Justin grabs the left tackle and allowed Aldon to run around him. Those were a tiny, tiny portion of Aldon's success.

They're actually very similar stylistically and approach(both win in multiple ways, are very handsy, love double swiping, are excellent at marrying hands and feet etc). The difference is Aldon had insane length(35 3/8" arms), and when combining hand technique, timing and hand placement with that type of length, it's devastating.

I think Bosa is the better overall player. Bosa is is a beast in run defense and ball pursuit.

This is the right answer, though I'll add that I don't think Bosa is yet in his prime which is scary.

44 Sack's In 50 games .
Not only did Smith have the most sacks in the first four years out of any player ever breaking Bruce Smith's record, he didn't start every game as a rookie and I believe he missed six games with injury/suspension. So it would've been an even higher number of sacks which is amazing. He was on pace to easily be the best all-time pass rusher ever. What a waste

A. Smith only had to win his 1 on 1 battles because J. Smith was constantly taking on 2 defenders. Bosa seems to always be taking on 2 defenders, or being held. Sure be cool to see bosa, (non-idiot a. smith), and J. Smith all on the field at one time.

Most of the time when people say it's not even close, it's absolutely close.
Aldon struggled anytime Cowboy was out or playing injured. Imo he's a bit overrated. A stud and a phenomenal player before the booze took over, but a bit overrated.
