I'm their primes, who was the better pass rusher out of these two

Bosa hasn't reached his prime yet.

I'm not sure Bosa has reached his prime, and it's possible he was not 100% with his knee in 2021.

Bosa.

Bosa had Buck, AA and to some extent, Dee Ford through 2019. As much as I love Bosa, he's not on the same level as Aldon. Not yet anyway.

Yup this. Bosa just entering it and will have an extended prime imo.. Aldon was a flash in the pan..
I don't get the "Aldon and its not close" comments...

I think the first 2 years it is Aldon but anything after that it will be Bosa. Aldon's prime was short lived. Give me someone who's prime is more than 2 years.

someone's prime is not their first and second year. These two haven't reached prime yet

Using hindsight, we know Aldon's prime now that he's out of the league. We don't know about Bosa and whether he will get better.

Yup. No doubt that Bosa could smash the debate by producing at a high level next season. I think I was more focused on pure skillset. Bosa doesn't have the arm length and natural bend that Aldon had but he's better in pretty much every other area currently and I don't see why he couldn't improve going forward.

Yup. Prime ruined cuz he was a first ballot, hall of fame idiot.
Aldon had a freakish ability to push the tackle at one speed (that looked slower, with power), and then break off and close to the quarterback at a whole other top gear. You could just see the tackle's utter surprise at how fast Aldon broke off and slipped past them. His closing speed was off the charts. He seems like a guy that would be a good dude until he hits the bottle and it comes apart. We all know someone like that. So sad.

I do think Bosa is already a better every down player. But pure pass rushing (because that's the question OP asked), I do think peak Aldon was a better pass rusher than 2021 Bosa by a small margin. But again, we don't know Bosa's prime. My guess is 2021 Bosa was not his prime, he's going to get better.

Ha, I just saw that post. These new members are goofy.
So many of Aldon Smith's sacks were from Justin Smith HOLDING 2 defenders on stunts. They started calling it and ended the fun his huge sack year. I loved Aldon, and was sad to watch his downfall.
More examples of Aldon Smith absolutely taking the souls of right tackles without Justin Smith next to him. I'm missing a bunch, too. This silly argument needs to die. Also, something that stood out to me while revisiting these old games was how often the 49ers got home with just 3. This group was elite, elite.
