Just woke up from the other side of the world. I had to turn it off at half time.
To be honest, I don't feel so bad because I predicted pretty much everything that happened last night.
Bottom line is this, this 2022 roster is just not good enough. I knew it from the start of the season. While I was wrong in underestimating how good CMC is in that trade, I was always worried about the D-line when I saw we could no longer just rush 4 as the line lacked push. Basically, John Lynch needs to learn a lesson from Howie Roseman. The dude had a vision and most of all was super aggressive. He focused on the trenches and had a goal of what he wanted to achieve. Both of their lines are far superior to the 9ers especially their D-line. You already knew something was up when they were sacking people left right and center. And to get to 70 sacks, 26 more than the 9ers? You just knew it was coming.
John Lynch knew about that, but was derailed in a way once he and Shanny decided to draft a QB in Trey Lance. Of course it didn't help when his No.14th pick Kinlaw turned out to be a bust after he decided to move Buckner. He still tried to find rotational players for the D-line, it just wasn't enough. On the other hand, once the Eagles' season started rolling, Howie Roseman went even more aggressive, he traded for Robert Quinn, even then he wouldn't stop there, just having an extra quality EDGE alone wasn't enough for him, so he added Suh for the interior of their line which Lynch lost out to. Wow, just wow. You almost have to admire Howie Roseman and that D-line. Even 9ers' own 2019 line with Buck and Dee Ford wasn't as good as this Eagles D-line.
In the end, it was also this Eagles D-line that basically defeated and eliminated the 9ers. So, the moral of the story is there is no free lunch in this world. If you want to go to the Super Bowl and mow down all your opponents, you will need a league sack-leading D-line. And as you can see, it paid off for the Eagles.
In retrospect, I kind of felt like what the Eagles must be feeling now about their team back in 2019 with that 9ers squad. While we had a 12-game winning streak this year, I never had that same feeling of true dominance and confidence when we mowed people down like we did with that 2019 team. John Lynch and Shanny need to take a step back, wake up and refocus themselves into putting all their energy and resources into rebuilding our D-line for the next few years. And O-line too if you don't want your QB to go down and lose the NFCCG.
In terms of outlook, I think the 9ers can still lurk about in making deep playoff runs. But, in my view, not until we can get back to that same 2019 level of dominance with our roster and in particular surpassing the Eagles, I don't expect us to win the Super Bowl anytime soon. That unfortunately is the cold hard reality.
I don't really gamble and I am not in the States.
