IF YOU LOSE 3 QBS IN ONE SEASON,
MAKE SURE YOUR DEPTH IS UP TO SPEED AND CAN ACTUALLY HANDLE A GOT DAMN SNAP. JOSH JOHNSON WAS THE WORST EFFORT I'VE EVERRRRRRRRRR SEEN.

It would have been nice to sign a real veteran QB to back up Purdy as soon Trey and Jimmy went down.
I think Minshew would be ideal and maybe Bennett later in the draft.

Just roll with Lance/Purdy, and get a viable 3rd. I'm not on board with the Rodgers/Brady scenario.

If Shanahan thought Lance was the man going into 22, I don't see why he wouldn't still think that going into 2023.
So I think Lance is the presumed starter. (and I still think the next great Niners QB, on a leap of faith lol).
Purdy will come back towards the end of camp hopefully and by default be the backup.
If Lance is not awesome and Purdy is looking back to this year's level in practice maybe he takes back over.
In the meantime they get a Nate Sudfeld level backup again because that is all will fit in the cap.
If Brady wants to take a big paycut to play for his boyhood team then all that changes, but I don't think they cut bait with Lance until they at least get to see him in some meaningful games.
Because his competition was Jimmy who just proved he couldn't win it in all. The question is do they make that gamble on Lance being ready vs a QB who can with all here.

You have to. I belive Kyle lost all his reserve offensive linemen in one game and was ready to play a TE at right tackle. Now he's gone to his 4th string in one season. So it means the 49er roster has to be built as solidly as possible from the first string to the last string.
I'm still amazed how Purdy played at such a high level for a rookie. Once he's 100% and had another training camp and preseason (the fact that he can't throw doesn't stop him from learning more of the offense) he's going to be even better.

And, that elbow should be stronger, Giedi.

Hopefully that ankle heels right. But this is the most likely path.
Agree 💯%.
I don't, and I think this playoff loss has probably shown Kyle that availability is the best ability and Trey is already leaning towards having the injury bug. It's probably the biggest reason we've also attempted to replace Jimmy for two years now and with Brock out for who knows how long as a rookie. He's going to want someone like his original plan when he arrived to get cousins who is never hurt.
Cousins is probably not available but Brady sure is.
Thats one option. They have a lot of day three draft picks to get some durable players for a lot of the needed positions. Durability will again be important in the 49ers scouting reports and player assessments.
Brady is a long shot, in my opinion. One reason is our cap space. I'd rather sign Bosa and Aiyuk vs Tom right now on top of considering Brock should be available to play next season (knock on wood).

Yeach, that would be sweet. Hope they get a repair ligament that came from a bigger man to strengthen and upgrade that ligament. As far as I know- its not a Tommy John injury, or whatever they call it. Its a clean break, with no additional complications. So 6 months and Purdy will be back, I hope.

I'd probably get a vet 2nd string QB and bring him in as my #3 guy. Thats all we can do unless you want to draft a rookie and hope you get lucky like we did with Purdy. Odds are like 0.5% that happens.
I think the injury to Brock will ensure Trey Lance and Brock have a QB competition in camp assuming Brock recovers in time. I say that bc we just dont know if Brock will be the same or not. If he loses any arm strength then he's screwed.

If Brady decides to come back for one more year, for what reason? It isn't for the money because he could make so much more in the booth. It's for his legacy and winning another ship. What other Super Bowl contender, besides the Niners, upgrades by signing Tom Brady under center? Answer - no one. And this isn't even factoring in the hometown ties. Brady to Niners is going to happen, it just makes too much sense on so many levels.

Colin Cowherd just said that he heard from an executive that the Niners will trade Lance and sign Brady.
