What do we do now at QB?

Tom Brady to the 49ers. What a story, think of the ratings. The NFL would love this. On gameday we would get a lot of calls coming in our way.

49ers win their 6th Super Bowl. Tom Brady wins his 8th with his childhood team. 49ers would get to win in Nevada.

49ers have lost their 2 recent SBs with 2 different QBs. Tom becomes the hometown hero and the 3rd QB to win a SB with the 49ers: Joe > Steve > Tom

Even if they could find a way to work out a cap friendly deal. That still doesn't leave much cap space left over to improve the offensive line which is vital for Brady.

There's also the optics of acquiring Brady and how that affects the veterans on the team. To see the front office go out and make an impactful change can invigorate a locker room that is understandably bummed out by what just transpired. To go into 2023 with a vet leader at QB can give a sense of freshness to the season - that, "this year is different". The only hesitancy I have with Brady is how much $ he will command. He needs to understand that the 49ers are strapped for cash and that he will need to take a (literally) hometown discount to make it work.
That's a good point and that would resonate to the team that the front office is not f'n around. Hopefully Brady will not be asking too much this time.

Yup. That "All in" feeling. The 49ers have no more picks to trade (no valuable picks), so the next best thing is to sign an impactful free agent. The other question is how far can Brady throw? Damn he's old. The last time the 49ers entertained the idea of Brady, they watched all his 2019 throws and thought he was done. I don't see how watching all his 2022 throws is going to make SF coaches feel better. Although I admit that the two full games I watched of the Bucs this season were when they got waxed by SF and DAL.

The problem is I just don't think Brady has it anymore. I saw him miss easy throw after easy throw this season when no one was around him. This wasn't the case a couple years ago.

It wouldn't shock me at all if Purdy comes back and plays at a higher level than Brady post injury.

And signing Brady means any hope we had for Trey being the guy or having any trade value is over.

Nothing works in a vacuum, there's more ramifications to signing Brady than just losing the 15-20m we could use to sign an impact starter.
I get that too. Bargain shop for a vet then? How much does the Dalton, McCoy cost these days? Or something like a Sudfeld type that we paid like 2M last year? So we are ok with Lance who hasn't played much all year let alone the last few years? Then we have Purdy who will be sidelined for an extended time and we don't know if it's 6 months, 9 months or even a year? Nice to have to allocate our money to other parts of the team. But we need to make sure our QB room is also sort out as there is suddenly a question mark in light of their injuries/inexperienced imho.

They were stunningly, stunningly wrong. Historical levels of wrong here.

Maybe that will get them to rethink.
Somehow the Rams keep buying players. I'm sure there are ways if they want it bad enough.

Sign Brady for $10, one year. If not, then he can go retire with LVR while getting stomped on by Mahomes. How's that for ending his legacy?
Brady, Brock, Trey. That's a nice QB room for 2023 and neither of the two youngsters should feel slighted by being behind Brady.

Yes.

We will know much more about Purdy's condition by March 15 (the beginning of FA signings). As of now, the 49ers have only one healthy QB to begin OTAs and beyond. Signing Brady early makes a ton of sense as it assures the 49ers have a quality starter to go along with one healthy young backup. It also allows the 49ers to take their time with Purdy to make sure he is fully healthy before putting him on the field again.

I can't see Shanahan passing on a chance to sign Brady given the fact we won't know for sure that Purdy will be able to play this season until August at the earliest. To enter the season with only an unproven Lance and whatever FA they can sign is a foolish place to be.

Your point about invigorating the locker room is a good one. We saw that happen this past season when they made the CMC deal. That was a big WOW! deal. It paid off. Hence, a Brady signing would have the same impact in all likelihood.
What about a flyer on Darnold? I thought he looked decent in Carolina this year. He can run and has a nice arm, but those decisions. Can Kyle fix that?

That is a concern, however, there are ways around that. One way would be if Brady would agree to a one-year deal. Marathe could do Bosa's new deal for a minimal number in the first year and pick it up later (multiple ways to do that). PM could then fit Brady into a $30M slot for 2023 and say goodbye after hoisting the Lombard.

Brady did miss some relatively easy throws, however, some of those misses were the result of receivers running bad routes. This was just a bad year all-around in TB.

If Purdy comes back in the same form we last saw him, I have little doubt he would outplay Brady. The problem is, no one knows for sure when Purdy is coming back. Signing Brady would send that message to the team.

Lance has no trade value at the present time. We can forget about that. TL is going to get his chance this off-season and TC.

Brady is the ultimate safety valve that assures a quality starter in case the other two options never develop. With this current roster, that is a move worth making, IMO.
i dont want brady now.

lets roll with lance and purdy. the rest of the team is fantastic. lets try the guys on rookie deals while continuing to having one of the best rosters in the league. we will win it soon
This is about completing the journey. Scrap all others. You want someone who can do it. If we go Lance, it is because of money and economic concerns. But I am on the Brady train. f**k development, I am tired of our dudes getting their dicks kicked in when it matters most.

Carolina is probably going to keep him as their starter. He looked pretty good late in the season.
its' sign Brady and win the effing super bowl now, or just gut the roster and burn it to the ground and start over Lol
It's interesting and sad that our QB situation went from a deep QB room to zero QBs in the room.
