Remembering this season, I think that they will be looking to spend a couple of these mid round picks on qb, if there is anyone vaguely promising around. We are not going to head into next season with just Lance and an injured Purdy. I don't really like any of the FAs except Darnold.

What about David Carr, or Andy Dalton, or even Sam Darnold?

At this point, with the retirement of Brady I'm not too confident about our chances. I'm really traumatized at this point. 4 straight years being undone by one position. This is insane. This is STILL a SB roster but we can't keep a healthy QB. I say stack this position 4 deep, maybe 5 deep. Let Jimmy walk, go get Carr if the Raiders release him, and get another cheap - but talented - vet like Andy Dalton or Sam Darnold. We CANNOT go into the season with just Lance and Purdy. We're in a win-now situation. So I say we carry 4 QB's. I know that's extreme, but so is our QB situation. And we're not gonna solve it by doing the normal.

This is why the league needs to expand the rosters, or allow teams to carry emergency QB's on game days. I can't believe the league like having the 49ers TOTALLY out of QB's simply because teams are limited in the gameday rosters.

I could see them bringing in Darnold on a cheap 1-2 yr deal. He's finally a FA.

Darnold played well enough down the stretch that he will most likely stay with Frank Reich. He will likely get a 3-year prove-it deal (a lot of incentives from a low base) to stay in Carolina.

David Carr will keep his gig with NFLN but little brother Derek might be available. However, LV isn't going to release him and we don't have the ammo to make a deal so that is off the table.

Dalton doesn't fit Shanny's system.

Lol, I meant Derek Carr.
Derek Carr has a huge payday if he is a Raiders 3 days after the Superbowl, and he has a no trade clause. Why, would he dump the no trade clause so his new team would lose picks and/or players? The Raiders disrespected him, and I don't see why he should help them. If I was him I'd make them cut or pay me.

Our qb situation is maxed out at like 5m lol.Parage has to be parage just to sign bosa lol. We have 16 million. 30 for bosa maybe 6 for ward. What about aiyuk. What about rt? Then what about rookies? Then you want a qb lol

It is pretty clear JWard is not coming back.

PM has plenty of options. A current article at Spotrac notes that between Fred Warner and CWard, there is a total of $19M in base salary that can be converted to a signing bonus thereby freeing up the total. That is just one option. There are others.

Money isn't the issue when it comes to QB2/3.

First off 19 million plus 16 is 35 million. That covers bosa. If people all want to bring in a qb to compete or start they are tripping it's almost impossible. And what about rookies lol

There are multiple ways to structure Bosa's contract to make it fit. One way is to push some of his 2023 salary into 2024 when Dee Ford's $8.589M and Alex Mack's $1.475M dead money come off the books.

I don't know English…maybe we should be honed in on some QB who started all 4 yrs in college, in a great conference, the Big 12, and who had good success in college ball, and then look at QBs who fit AND are still available late in the 7th rd.

For those mid rounders, I'd be looking at OLs, at least a couple and maybe even 3. I suspect Kyle is going to pay more attn to QB protection this yr than he has previously. This yrs' QB injuries were the straws that broke the camel's back, and KS will give a lot more emphasis to protecting his QBs than in recent yrs.

Being serious for a moment, i am betting on KS/JL being more interested in QBs who started all 4 yrs of college and have a great pedigree from a big time conference…Big 12, SEC, Pac 12, and whatever they call the old SW conference which also was called the big 12. What i think they will give less credence and importance to is a QB who is 6'4" , can throw the ball 90 yds, runs a 4.5 40, and can do 27 bench presses of 225 lbs. i think they are going to focus less on "tangibles" and more on how the QB actually played at a big time university for 4 yrs.

Who cares. If Tom Brady is really retired, our SB window is officially closed. You'd have to be smoking the pipe if you think Trey Lance is gonna go gang bangers and the team will be unstoppable. And Brock Purdy with half an elbow. Yea highly doubtful.

I think y'all are about to see the Kyle Shanahan era go up in flames similar to how our season did when we played Philadelphia.

Pray that Brady is just PMSing and will come to his senses when FA hits, or game over…

Yup, keep the best 3, and not only that but press on your 49er scouts to really pick a good diamond in the rough day three QB pick that can *step in* in a pinch vs a developmental QB that *can't* because knowing kyles current offensive scheme, its dangerous to a QBs health.

If it was that simple, no team would struggle to find a QB. Purdy was equal parts luck along with good evaluation but if they knew he would play as well as he did, they wouldn't have waited until the last pick of the draft to take him. Take a shot on a QB late sure, someone like Jake Haener from Fresno State fits the bill but don't expect them to reach Purdy's level as fast, or if ever.

Agree💯%, you miss 💯% of the shots you *don't* take. I think they might take a QB late in Day three, why not, considering their past successes in that round.

Good chance he will, I'm not a doctor, but him being able to throw with a torn ulnar - shows toughness and hopefully the injury isn't as bad as it looks in the MRI.

I think we are somehow being made to pay in the 2000's for our dominance of the 1980s an 1990s. Hopefully we have paid enough by now.

Meh, I look at it optimistically. I think there is a stat out there that the 49ers have the most appearances in the NFCCG. (or something like that) Key is just keep getting into the playoffs and sooner or later it will happen. 20 straight playoff appearances during the dynasty years, only 5 super bowls to show for it. This recent disappointment par for the course. 3 out of the past 4 NFCCG involved the 49ers. I'd rather it have been the 49ers vs some other team, for sure.

Really bad take.

Reich needs an established QB, so Carr and Jimmy are the best options.

Also, I've never hear of a "3-year" prove it deal.

They should be drafting a QB every year considering how many QB's keep getting put on IR on this team.
