time to show the league the blueprint for Lamar 😈. If there is one. Lol I think Lamar is a much better passer/processor than hurts

Contain wins this game…if our EDGES play CONTAIN, we win. If they don't , then no, i don't see a W. The killer is the time when Lamar breaks out of CONTAIN, and goes for 12 , 20 or more yds. Wilks has got to get his DEs to Contain, and his DTs to crush up the middle. That is how to beat Lamar and the Ravens.

Unfortunately, he is also an excellent passer, so our DBs will have to be able to have their guys well covered, Do that and we get the W.

Our O plays its regular game and we take 'em, but D is the key here. No contain, and no W.

Lamar Jackson is pretty accurate and his receivers seem to catch everything, Ji'ayir Brown is gonna have to play mistake free.

I noticed him throwing a jump ball that could have easily been picked (probably SHOULD HAVE, in fact) but he got the MVP benefit of the doubt and it was a great play.

Yeah, they're a running team and mostly use pass attempts to setup the run.

Let's hope we get better at tackling and get Armstead and Hargrave back. If the D looks like last week, we'll probably lose.

I thought we had the #1 run defense since last week.... did that arizona game really drop us that far to 18??

Trying to figure it out also. Their #3 in yards, #4 in TDs and #19 in Y/A , do not sure how it equates to #18

We were 8th in YPA until the ARI game.

Knowing Lombardi - it's probably DVOA against the run or something Aka an advanced metric. I may be wrong, I haven't looked into it, but may be that.

I love the DVOA stats, but frankly to tell you the truth, those metrics and the PFF stuff are a lot of judgmental values in my opinion. First of all they are averaging a lot of the numbers and aren't specific matchups per team. I.e. A supposedly bad 49er OLine vs a supposedly good Eagles DLine, and the 49ers OLine massacres them. So going into the game the 49ers OLine is historically averaged vs the Eagles DLine historical average. Hence you get this historical statistics that are not really pertinent to specific matchups and specific teams. Having said that, again, love those stats, but I don't put more stock into it than just the fact it's the past, and the past does not actually predict the future, just probabilities.

Exactly this. If they get us in 2nd and long, then they can pin their ears back and rush. If a defense can't stop the run AND then beat our pass protection, they're cooked.

The Ravens are going to look at the Browns and the Bengals games as blueprints. Both defenses had success by being hyper aggressive in the short/intermediate areas. They are going to play a ton of Man coverage and sellout to stop the run and short middle passing game while maintaining their lanes. Against the Eagles, we moved the ball side to side to take advantage of their over pursuit. The Ravens are more disciplined. I think Kyle will need to dial up deep balls on double moves to beat man coverage and open up the middle. CMC will be more effective in the 2nd half than the 1st.

Agree about the Raven's defense much more disciplined than the previous defenses that the 49ers have faced. Having said that, my watching of the Ravens defense - they still like to blitz. Brock will make them pay if they do, but Kyle has to just be as sound as offensively as possible and not beat himself with trick plays that Harbaugh's defense will not be fooled with.

They'll still bring pressure, but it will likely be with more "safe pressures" like zone blitzes and simulated pressures. They'll rely on being more sound on the back end and focus on disguising and creating confusion for quarterbacks, similar to Vic Fangio's approach. Perhaps they feel this is the best way to stop the AFC's top quarterbacks — Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen and Joe Burrow.

Lamar is streaky, when he is on he can be nearly unstoppable when throwing the ball.... we have to get him out of his mojo so he can't get a rhythm going
Ahem 🤓

Purdy the 49ers quarterback
Has a very awesome throw
And if you ever saw it
You would guess he'll win a superbowl
All of the other draft picks
Weren't as good as 262
Jimmy G, see ya later
Trey Lance can get somewhere too
Then one foggy Christmas Eve
Shanny came to say
"Purdy with your throws so right..Ravens ain't winnin' tomorrow night!"
Then how everyone loved him
As they shouted out with glee
Purdy the 49ers quarterback
You'll go down in history!
(Like Montana!)

If the 49ers are going to lose this game (and I don't buy into that fact at all) it will be on special teams.

The Ravens earned that spot thanks to a thrilling overtime win over the Los Angeles Rams (6-7) last weekend that was sealed with a punt return touchdown from receiver Tylan Wallace.
That moment was big for Wallace, of course, but also for Baltimore as a whole, and stands out as the highlight moment in special teams coordinator Chris Horton's coach career so far.

Yeah, they're a running team and mostly use pass attempts to setup the run.

Brock has 17 less pass attempts than Lamar. Here is a per play (pass+run) look at both QB's.

Brock- 9.3 yards per play, 7.4% TD rate per play

Lamar- 7.2 yards per play, 4.1% TD rate per play.

Agree, and one of the unsung areas of the team is the 49ers medical staff. If they are going to be criticized for the past 49er injury issues, then they should be praised for this current year's (so far, knock on wood) success on the health front. I think the QB also plays a role on the injury side. I'm sure everybody has seen Jimmy throw some hospital balls to his receivers, that got them dinged in a game. On defense, with the offense ball hogging the time of possession, they are well rested and not fatigued in the fourth quarter. PasoDoc always says, Fatigue causes injuries. Defensive teams can't overload and put 8 men in the box because of Purdy's passing so CMC and the rest of the RB's aren't going to get gang tackled a lot and get their legs twisted the way they probably would be if 8 or 9 men are two yards from the LOS and bent on stopping them.
