Who will be the Niners new DC?-Rooney Rule Now Applicable

If this were any other team besides ours, you would be laughing at that team right now.

The reality is no other team is active. In a typical cycle, you might want to get it done quick, to avoid your guy getting signed by another team. We have our pick now, other clubs have their staffs finalized by and large. No reason to rush, other than fans wanting news asap. So no reason to rush.

"The 49ers are likely to interview at least two other coaches from outside the building later in the week. Shanahan did not reveal which other outside candidates are being considered for the position.

NFL rules require clubs to interview at least two minority candidates for all coordinator positions."

So finally some news. But still not really.
So will they have fulfilled the Rooney rule BEFORE they interview the two external candidates, or will at least one of those externals need to satisfy the Rooney rule?
Let's hope the remaining interviews aren't simply to fulfill the Rooney rule.
So, we've only interviewed:
Staley
Sorenson

We still have interviews planned for:
Bullocks
UNKNOWN EXTERNAL CANDIDATE #1
UNKNOWN EXTERNAL CANDIDATE #2

The concern for many:
The remaining candidates may be only to fulfill the Rooney rule

No, I wouldn't. Because I understand that there is no actual rush and interviewing multiple candidates (who have their own scheduling issues in terms of availability) is a smart way of hiring a good candidate.

Tried to warn some of you guys before that it could be something so simple as the availability to interview a potential target. But feel free to think interviewing candidates and not making a decision in a timeline that satisfies fanaticofnfl = thumb up their butt. Maybe go deeper into the evidence-free stupidity well and assume none of the guys we want actually want the job!

Does Bullocks count even though he's internal?

Such as?

Stuff about Deebo and his ongoing trade/contract discourse. Also stuff about Lance and Brock (things he heard about within the building).

I'm not gonna toss out random guys tweets that haven't had any truth behind other posts.

I mean, just because he hears something from someone that's might know a thing or two, doesn't mean it will come true either.

personally I don't see how Carroll would ever come here. I highly doubt Bill goes to a DC. Take from it what you will.

I wouldn't see why not.
If you believed the reports from last week: Soon.

Feel like Sorensen would make more sense. I read somewhere that he was helping Kyle with the defensive planning more than Wilks was.
Probably Sorenson- Pete tree of defense, internal and only member of defensive staff with play calling and coaching experience. Maybe it works out.

Hes been the one I've seen as most likely if they go in-house. Has a decade of NFL coaching experience, former player, was a coach with Seattle for a long time, was a special teams coordinator for a year so he has leadership experience too.

Nah they don't have to be minority candidates. Bullocks fulfills half of it
Really don't want Staley….so that's who it will probably be
The rule needs to be modified. A bit lame. I can see if you have only had white folks the past decade as coaches but the 9ers have been extremely diverse in their assistants and coaching hires. If you have had minority candidates in key positions in the past couple of years the rule should be not applicable.

But whatever. Especially if you are Mr Irrelevant in the coaching hire cycle

Let's go Sorenson, be on board and move on to FA.
