Very weird move.

Solid move for them. He's from NY and might stick there long term.

If they got him for next to nothing and wanted to take a shot, sure, I get that....but you don't trade multiple top organizational prospects for the chance that he MIGHT stay. They won't compete with Atlanta, Philadelphia, OR Washington this year. If they now move Thor and get some talent back it makes a little sense, but as of right now its a for me.

Just another example of why the Mets are one of the worst ran sports franchises out there.

That's one way of looking at it. They did make the World Series a few years back.
I would say every other top prospect never lives up to their potential and Stroman gives the Mets a deep rotation. they already have the young bats to really compete next season. Plus he's (Stroman) under control too.

I guess my point is, they're not competing this year. If they want to add to their rotation next year and into the future, why not just to get Gerrit Cole?

good point, they must love them some Stroman I guess..

The Coupons aren't going to sign off on paying what Gerrit Cole is likely going to command in free agency, especially after paying DeGrom.

The two pitchers the Mets gave up in the Stroman deal were their top two pitching prospects, but neither one was in any top 100 lists, so we're not talking high end guys here. Also, they won't just give Syndergaard away. If he goes anywhere it's because a team got desperate and gave up one or more high level prospects to get him. He's very likely going to walk in free agency in a couple of years so why not maximize that return if a team blows you away with an offer?

The only thing that would piss me off is if they add Edwin Diaz in with Wheeler in a trade to get a bigger prospect return, like I've read is a possibility. The bullpen sucks and you're gonna give up a 24 year old closer who's not having his best year but still has multiple years of team control? f**k that noise.

Moves need to start being made, this has been a boring deadline week

Santana likely moving up to take Wheeler's spot in the rotation IMO.

He must be related to Brandon Belt somehow.

Cubs/Cardinals tonight
Trevor Bauer to Cincinnati. Damn his act must have really worn thin.

Not a bad return though. Reyes is a nice get who will settle in as DH and give the Indians major power for years. Puig is just a rental but also gives the Indians a much needed power bat for the stretch run. I like what Cleveland did in this trade more than the others. Padres are certainly gambling that Trammell is a lot better than how he has performed this year in the minors.
