***2024 MLB Regular Season Thread***

Yankees fan here, but has my question nothing to do with them, I took Austin Riley for NL MVP, I don't watch much NL ball, I just checked the top 5 candidates to win and he's not in the top 5, so my question is, is Riley being overlooked bc he's having an amazing season so far, or are these other guys just having a greater season ?

Scott Boras is his agent.

Maybe he doesn't like DC and doesn't want to be stuck there for 15 years?

I think he could get a year off of that contract for the same total amount

Its the money coupled with the Nats owners (the Lerners) are cheap, and looking to sell the team. They traded away all the pieces that made them competitive and left Soto on a s**t team. I'd be looking for money and a better team situation if I was him also. But I don't think Boras lets this dude not try full out FA.
If salaries continue to go up, in 5 years Soto's $29+M a year is going to look like a terrible deal for one of the best young players in baseball history. Couple that with the fact that the Nationals let all their other great players leave and him maybe not wanting to be in that city (conjecture), we can see why it was an easy contract to turn down.

It locks him into DC. He likely believes he can get that money and choose his club. Which is better than getting that money and not choosing your club.
Cleveland Guardians look to Browns for inspiration; plan to trade for Trevor Bauer at the deadline
Not surprised, but damn these prices.
