I mean… it's never a sure thing , sure wheeler was a mistake , but look at Luciano, he was more hyped and turned out to be a bust, always thought trading for someone who is already proven was always smart

way too early to call Marco a bust. Ramos and Bart weren't producing at 22/23 either.

That's true. It's also why I'm not 100% convinced that Ramos can repeat the year he had in 2024. His BA fell off a lot after the all star break. It went from about .300 down to .269. His HR production dropped to 2 in Sept. I'm hoping he can get back up to .275 or better this year and repeat his 20+ HR season but I have to see it. One season doesn't make a solid player.
Ya boi!

Press conference this Thursday.

Fried lands with Yankees for 8 yrs $218M
If Fried got what he got, do we think Giants will pay Burnes what he'll get. Only in our dreams.
Yankees lose out on Soto and just decided to give money away

this is why i am looking a tad more under the radar.

jack flaherty
scherzer would be kind of a dream to get him in a SFG uni for a season
now i liked pat sandoval but apparently he's in a ray situation of having to miss half the year so i'm not as enthused here
lorenzen and trevor williams could be good
quantrill formerly of the rockies
then these international pitchers i'm not sure how good they are or what they will come in at tbh

Giants had roughly $70M walk out the door. So far they had spent $26M on Adames. If the Giants wanted to match or come close to last year payroll, they could have easily given Burnes 6 yrs $220M (just a shade under $37M per year.) But they were talking about significant payroll reduction. I believe they'll push hard for Sasaki to get #2 pitcher on accommodating money. And if they don't get him, find the guy on either "prove it" deal ala Gauzman or go for the smaller fish like Flaherty on like 4 years $18-20 per year, hoping he'll repeat last year. In either case they'll call it an offseason.

i kinda like the bargain bin. burnes was kinda slowing down as the season went forward. for example, he k/9 was 8.4. this is a guy who was 12+. what happened? you need to know before you make a hundreds of millions worth of offer. in fact his k9 has regressed 4 straight seasons.
Bye bye, Thairo. Was such a disappointment in 2024 after a pretty good 2023.

i saw that. good landing spot for him, a year to get some numbers in Colorado. i still like him
Pitching aside, there are 3 major holes still in this lineup. I feel like they really need to address at least 1-2 of the 3 to be competitive, depending on who they can get. McCray 100% should be depth. Yaz is the kind of player to get spot starts, he isn't a full time starter. But at least he provides a little power from the left side and plays really hard. When he's hot, he plays well. But he isn't consistent. And they could do a lot better at 1B than Wade. At a minimum they need to get a better OF so McCray doesn't start.

They also have a lineup that strikes out a lot.
One stat on Adames that shows how clutch he is...13 of his HRs were 3 run homers.

Agree on Wade. He's a good bech player but I would like to see a more consitent power hitter in that spot. As far as SOs it's true but they're 11th worst and about the same as the 3 teams directly below them. That makes them about average.

MLB overall has too many SOs no. It mkes the gamkind of boring when player after player fails to put the ball in play. I think it's partly because of the way hitters are being taught to try and backspin the ball but it's also because pitchers are only being asked to throw a few innings. This allows them to throw harder consitently. Then they're replaced by another guy throwing heat and crazy breaking itches. Hitters aren't seeing the same pitcher more than twice in most games.

I know you understand baseball so you can appreciate how hard it is for the hitters the way today's game is played.

Being average in strike outs hurts more when your lineup lacks good hitters. When your lineup only has a few feared hitters, teams don't have to pitch around anyone. And when your best hitters strike out a lot, it makes it worse. Look at the projected lineup a few pages back...you can literally go after any hitter aggressively because you don't fear the person behind them. Chapman for example. Ok stats, but strikes out a ton. 158 SOs and if you watch the games, many in important spots. Which is why he only had 78 RBIs. And I showed last year he got more fastballs in the middle of the plate than any hitter and still struck out that many times.

It is crazy that hitters now hit .240 and people are saying they are great.
