You guys think Belt accepts the QO?

Whose giving up a pick up sign him though?

I think the Giants will bring him back on a 3 year deal. And the pick isnt a #1 like it used to be so really not that big of a deal anymore.

don't be shocked if his hometown Rangers pry him away from us on a longer term deal.

There are rumors they are prepared to give Semien a MASSIVE contract so they might not want to overspend to get Belt too.

Interesting, they might go after Story too. With how much Belt get's hurt, I wouldn't go farther out than a 2 year deal.

Hes a team leader who plays outstanding D and his approach at the plate is almost the model of what the Kapler staff wants everyone to be like. Word from the clubhouse was that as frustrated as Bochy's staff was with Belt's approach, Kapler was the opposite, and absolutely loves him. I would be shocked if they dont bring him back.

He means more to the Giants than anyone else, we have a massive amount of money to spend, and hes not going to want a ridiculous amount. His injuries have been more fluke than chronic, so I don't think that factors in as much as people think. We got a glimpse of our lineup without lefty power after he was hurt and it cost us against the Dodgers. Way too many reasons to sign him back to let him walk over a potential replacement. Plus how many free agent lefty bats are going to know the intricacies of hitting at Oracle Park?

you mean like being the master of hitting a single off the wall 1 foot from being a homer?
The other thing is I don't think Belt is taking a shorter contract and I think he tries to get paid. Of the top 50 free agents, he has the 8th best WAR and 6th best if you remove pitchers. The only negative that might hold him up getting paid is his injury history.

Wind patterns, etc. He still has more HR than any lefty at Oracle Park besides Bonds.

I am a huge believer in advanced metrics. But there are 2 things about them that I just dont agree on:

1) RBIs matter
2) Brandon Belt

I have never seen a bigger discrepancy between WAR and perceived value based on watching the games than I have with Brandon Belt. Not with any other player I have watched.

But with that being said, we would be dumb not to bring him back. I dont think even if we overpay him (based on his market), that it would be such an overpay where it would matter whatsoever in terms of how it affects the roster construction now or in the future. I am all on board with bringing him back.

"Perceived value" is the key there. Brandon Belt is perceived a certain way based on the way he looks, and his body language. If Belt looked and acted like Mike Trout, putting up his same Belt metrics, the perception would be different. He has an awkward way about things that makes fans dislike him, even though the numbers are there.

lol he's been a starter since 2011. Is there another lefty thats played longer.

And I agree on bringing him back. I'm just saying, if we know Belt is good (vice skeet) so do other teams.

Crawford has been there just as long.

Craw wasn't really a power hitter until recently and a SS. And Belt is barely ahead of him. Not sure that Belt has hit more homers in oracle means anything. His future and perceived value are all that matter.

I'd love to keep him but I also won't be surprised if someone offers him good money.

The good thing is of the available, some may perceive a couple of guys on this list as better and they probably really aren't. And I still believe if Belt played in a different park, his numbers would be a lot better.

Freddie Freeman (32, 7.8 WAR)
Brandon Belt (34, 5.2)
Anthony Rizzo (32, 2.7)
Brad Miller (32, 1.8)
Yoshi Tsutsugo (30, 0.5)
Ryan Zimmerman (37, 0.4)
Ronald Guzmán (27, 0.0)
Danny Santana (31, -0.3)
Todd Frazier (36, -0.4)
Albert Pujols (42, -0.4)
José Marmolejos (29, -0.6)

I dont agree with this at all. All good though.

My point is just that the Giants view Belt as extremely valuable for multiple reasons. I just cant see any scenario where they let him go unless some other team steps in and offers something crazy, which wont happen.

Freeman probably goes back to ATL, which means Rizzo is the prized 1B on the market. As you mentioned, Belt is probably the better player at this point, but Rizzo's age and pedigree will get him a better deal than anything Belt is offered. I would even be comfortable offering him 3/60, just because we have the money, and can't afford to lose any more power or leadership now that Posey has retired.
MLB Trade Rumors just released their article on the top 50 free agents and their predictions. I absolutely LOVE their predictions for us:

Kevin Gausman: 6 years/$138M
Starling Marte: 4 years/$80M
Jon Gray: 4 years/$56M
Justin Verlander: 2 years/$40M
Brandon Belt: Accepts $18.4M QO

Kevin Gausman: 6 years/$138M (I would give 5 years/110) No way on 6 years
Starling Marte: 4 years/$80M About right. Like the player and he would make an impact
Jon Gray: 4 years/$56M Like his upside. I think he could flourish away from Denver. Right price
Justin Verlander: 2 years/$40M I dont know. 38 year old who hasnt pitched since 2019 is risky
Brandon Belt: Accepts $18.4M QO No way he accepts the QO

My thoughts in bold. I think the Giants will bring back Gausman and Belt. As for the other guys, Gray and Marte would be nice adds
