WR Torrey Smith was listed as out for Sunday and will not even travel with the team to Atlanta. He has not practiced this week and said that he is still having symptoms from the concussion that he suffered in the loss to the New York Jets.
Last Sunday, Smith fell to the ground while attempting to haul in a 25-yard pass and his head crashed into the Levi's Stadium field. He remained on the field and was immediately looked at by training and medical staff. Smith was able to sit up and was seen talking with team staff but was then taken to the 49ers' locker room on a cart for evaluation.
Smith said that he does not remember anything between the actual play itself and driving home after the game. "I don't remember anything," he said Thursday via the Sacramento Bee. "That's one of the things that come with (a concussion). But as long as I'm feeling better each and every day, that's all that counts right now."
On Wednesday, Smith joined KNBR 680 and discussed his recovery. "You just have to wait until the symptoms go down," he said. "I still have symptoms. I don't know how long that will be, whether it's only a week or two weeks or whatever. You just never know. It's my first time ever having one like this where I just got knocked out so it was pretty bad. I don't know."
OT Joe Staley, who missed Sunday's game against the Jets, was listed as doubtful against the Falcons and likely will not play. He is dealing with a hamstring injury. If Staley does not play, it will be his second-straight missed game after starting in 92 straight.
For the Falcons, WR Julio Jones will miss Sunday's game – his second straight. Jones leads the league with 1,253 receiving yards. He suffered what head coach Dan Quinn called a "toe sprain" a couple of weeks ago against the Kansas City Chiefs and missed Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Rams.
