San Francisco 49ers WR Torrey Smith suffered a concussion on December 11 against the New York Jets. He entered the concussion protocol and missed this past Sunday's game against the Falcons in Atlanta. He didn't even travel with the team.

"He's in the concussion protocol," 49ers head coach Chip Kelly said this morning while addressing the media.

On the Murph & Mac show this morning on KNBR 680, Smith would not commit to playing on Christmas Eve against the Los Angeles Rams at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

Smith discussed what it meant to be in the concussion protocol. "It just basically means that they're kind of easing you back in, in terms of physical activities," explained Smith. "It's all based on your symptoms. I'm feeling way better but there's still some issues there. And they kind of monitor it, make sure things aren't getting worse. They give you different types of tests to see how your body responds."


Smith went on to say that he has not passed those tests. "I take the test (again) later this week," he said. "So we'll see."

Smith was asked if he would play on Saturday against the Rams. "We'll see," he answered. Smith said that, even though there are only two games left in the season, that doesn't necessarily mean that he does not want to play. "My health is the most important thing," Smith continued. "I want to make sure that I'm fine to go and then I can play."
