McVay has been the offensive coordinator with Washington since 2014. Before that, he served as the tight ends coach and assistant tight ends coach with the team. McVay began his NFL coaching career in 2008 as an offensive assistant with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
McVay also met with the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday, who are on a head coach search of their own. He has guided a Washington offense that was ranked third in total offense and second in passing in 2016. At age 30, McVay is the youngest coordinator in the league and a promotion would make him the youngest head coach.

McVay's grandfather, John McVay, coached the New York Giants from 1976 until 1978 and served in various roles, including general manager, with the 49ers in the 1980s and 1990s.
In 2012, Beane served as the Panthers' interim general manager for the final 10 games of the season prior to the hiring of Dave Gettleman, the team's current general manager. Carolina promoted Beane to assistant general manager in June of 2015.
Prior to the promotion, Beane spent seven seasons as the team's director of football operations. He has been responsible for directing portions of the team's drafts, putting together the team's draft boards for the past five years and helping to execute trades for cornerback Bene Benwikere, wide receiver Devin Funchess and offensive tackle Daryl Williams.
The 49ers have been busy traveling to interview candidates for their vacant head coach and general manager positions and that will not ease up this week. You can keep track of the entire search using our up-to-date head coach and general manager tracker.
It is the first time that the organization is trying to fill both spots since 2005 when the 49ers hired Mike Nolan and then Scot McCloughan. The search and interview process will be led by Jed York and Chief Strategy Officer & Executive Vice President of Football Operations Paraag Marathe.
