Since Peters would not be getting full control of the roster, Broncos general manager John Elway had the power to block the request to interview Peters, but apparently chose not to do so. "The Broncos, however, ultimately decided not to stand in Peters' way in order to foster a sense that upward mobility will be rewarded — even if that means losing someone they'd otherwise prefer to keep," reports Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.
We could be seeing the first example of the respect that new 49ers general manager John Lynch has throughout the league. Lynch is a close friend of Elway's, who shares a mutual respect for the 49ers general manager. There has also been talk that former Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Mark Dominik would join the 49ers front office in some capacity.
Prior to his current role, Peters was the club's assistant director of college scouting from 2014 until 2015 following three years as a national scout and two seasons scouting the Western region for the Broncos. During his time in the NFL, he has been part of three Super Bowls.
"In his first seven years with Denver, Peters helped the team acquire 27 players through the draft and college free agency that were members of the Super Bowl 50 championship roster," says the official Broncos website.
