As the new general manager, John Lynch, along with new head coach Kyle Shanahan, has been entrusted with the task of rebuilding the San Francisco 49ers. The team has won just seven games over the past two seasons and won just two in 2016. Their downward spiral since the firing of Jim Harbaugh has created numerous critics of the organization.

Following Thursday's introductory press conference, Lynch took the time to speak with Michael Silver of NFL Media, who started his reporting career in the Bay Area covering the 49ers and the Golden State Warriors. Lynch shared what it was like when he told his kids that he was accepting a job with the 49ers.

"I think the toughest one – I haven't told this yet to the media – all my kids took it really well," Lynch said. "They were shocked but they took it really well. My 9-year-old started bawlin' and she's not that girl. She's the one that was always happy and she was crying and I said, 'What's wrong Leah? Is there some nervous anxiety about moving?' And she said, 'No daddy,' and she was sobbing. And I said, 'What's wrong?' And she said, 'The 49ers are horrible.'

Lynch: 'My daughter started crying' when I accepted the job

"So I said, 'Well, I think that's why they hired your daddy,'" added Lynch.

Lynch's wife and four children tried to surprise him by flying up for the press conference on Thursday, but bad weather kept them in San Diego. They will remain there until the end of the school year, after which they will move to the Bay Area.

"It was a big change for them and it was important that they bought in and they're incredibly excited," Lynch said during the press conference.
