Kyle Shanahan will be calling the offensive plays as the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers. That makes it unnecessary to formally announce an offensive coordinator for the team. What the 49ers will have is a run game specialist and that man will be Mike McDaniel, who previously served as an offensive assistant with the Atlanta Falcons.


McDaniel spent the past two seasons serving under Shanahan with the Falcons and has been rumored as a potential candidate to join the 49ers in some role. He spent the 2014 season as the wide receivers coach with the Cleveland Browns, again under Shanahan. Prior to joining the staff in Cleveland, he spent three seasons with the Washington Redskins, starting as an offensive assistant in 2011 before being promoted to wide receivers coach in 2013.

On Monday, it was reported that Robert Saleh would be named the defensive coordinator of the 49ers. Saleh had been the linebackers coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars since 2014 and was reportedly set to join the Los Angeles Chargers for the 2017 season within the same role.
