During his college career with the Miners, Jones carried the football 658 times for 4,114 yards and 33 touchdowns. The three-year starter had his best year in 2016, during which he had 229 carries for 1,773 yards and 17 touchdowns. He also had 28 receptions for 233 yards last season. In 2015, he played in only two games due to a torn ligament in his left ankle.
Jones is the all-time leading rusher for the University of Texas-El Paso. He was just the third UTEP running back to reach 3,000 career rushing yards and the third player in school history to have multiple 1,000-yard seasons.
"This process has shown me there is always room for improvement and to continue to work hard and stay humble, you have to go get what you want," Jones said in 2016 regarding the recovery from his ankle injury. "It's also shown me and taught me how to become a better leader."
