The San Francisco 49ers have released DuJuan Harris, according to the running back himself. Harris returned to the team on a one-year deal, which was signed on March 27th.

Last season, Harris carried the ball just 38 times for 138 yards with the 49ers but also added 115 yards and a touchdown on eight receptions. He was on and off the roster all season, finally being promoted to the active roster on October 22. Harris did not make the team's final roster in September and was released and signed to the team's practice squad twice after that.

Initially, Harris was a late-season addition by the 49ers in 2015 – being signed from the Baltimore Ravens practice squad. He rushed for 140 yards on 27 carries in the final two games of that season.

Harris' release comes a day after the 49ers released undrafted free agent wide receiver KD Cannon, who played college football at Baylor. The 49ers may be making room on the roster to sign tryout players from this past weekend's three-day rookie minicamp.

The 49ers selected a running back in last month's draft – running back Joe Williams out of Utah in the fourth round. Last week, the 49ers released Mike Davis, a fourth-round selection out of South Carolina in the 2015 NFL Draft. The other running backs currently on the roster are Carlos Hyde, Tim Hightower, Raheem Mostert, and rookie Matt Breida.

Harris, who entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2011 with the Jacksonville Jaguars, has also spent time with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints, Seattle Seahawks, and Ravens.
