Jaquiski Tartt left Monday's practice with an injury to the rib area. Following practice, head coach Kyle Shanahan didn't immediately have any details on the severity of the injury.
"We know it's rib-type stuff and they're going to look at it right now," Shanahan said on Monday.
The 49ers were already down safeties Jimmie Ward and Eric Reid. On Friday morning, prior to the team's first practice of training camp, Ward was placed on the physically-unable-to-perform list with a hamstring injury suffered during the team's Thursday conditioning test. Ward does not count towards the 49ers' 90-man roster while on the list but can be activated at any time prior to the final cuts of training camp.
Reid was listed as day-to-day and the 49ers seem confident that the ankle injury is not serious. The safety limped off the practice field on Sunday during the second snap of 11-on-11 drills.

"I saw him limp off once," Shanahan said on Sunday. "Then I think he came in to try to go and then I saw him limp off again and then [athletic trainer Jeff Ferguson] pulled him for the rest of practice. So, the fact that he came back I'm being optimistic that it's not too bad, but he definitely couldn't go, it was bothering him."
During Monday's practice, Joe Fann of 49ers.com reported that he expected the safety would be out "at least a couple of more days." Reid was out on the field with his teammates in his full practice uniform – minus the pads. He was seen jogging and going through team warmups but did not participate further.
The injuries at safety mean more playing time for other young players like offseason standout Lorenzo Jerome.

Also on Monday morning's injury report were wide receiver B.J. Johnson and linebacker Jimmie Gilbert. Both injured rookies were waived on Monday afternoon. Johnson was dealing with a severe hamstring injury while Gilbert had suffered a torn ACL.
To take their places, the 49ers added two wide receivers. Once Johnson was waived, they claimed rookie wide receiver Tim Patrick, who had recently been waived by the Baltimore Ravens. He played college football at Utah, where he appeared in 22 career games with 14 starts. As a senior in 2016, Patrick led the Utes in receptions (45), receiving yards (711) and touchdown receptions (5), while finishing ninth in the Pac-12 in receiving yards per game (59.2) and sixth in yards per reception (15.8).
Hours later, the 49ers made a second signing to coinside with Gilbert being waived. This time, the team brought in a veteran wide receiver in Louis Murphy, who has spent time with the Oakland Raiders, Carolina Panthers, New York Giants, and, most recently, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The 30-year-old receiver has appeared in 88 games with 28 starts during his eight-year career. During that time, Murphy has 162 receptions for 2,322 yards and 10 touchdowns.
