Shanahan said the following regarding Garnett's injury:
"I think he's a little more in Malcolm's boat. Again, I don't know exactly for sure but I know there's some stuff in his knee that we're probably going to have to clean up. I don't think it's anything long-term but it's going to be a little bit of time."
Shanahan was asked whether or not Smith's injury was long-term. He answered with the following:
"Yeah, possibly. Neither of [the injuries] are good news, that's for sure but we're still holding out hope that they can help us this year."
Smith will have an MRI to determine the severity of the damage but the team fears that it is a long-term pectoral injury.
Garnett was the 28th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft while Smith was added as a free agent from the Oakland Raiders in March. Both were expected to be big contributors to the team in 2017.
Garnett appeared on Saturday's pre-practice participation report with the knee injury. Smith suffered his injury during Saturday's practice.
