The 49ers made a second roster move on Wednesday by waiving injured linebacker Jayson DiManche.
Newsom suffered a concussion during practice last week and is still experiencing symptoms. With training camp ending on Thursday and Newsom not expected to practice, the team felt it best if he spent time on injured reserve to get healthy.
Newsom was signed as an undrafted free agent following the 2017 NFL Draft. He played college football at the University of Missouri. In 2016, he led the Tigers with 73 tackles, 5.5 of which were for a loss, while starting 11 of the 12 games he appeared in. Newsom also compiled three sacks, four passes defensed, and a forced fumble last year.
DiManche returned to the 49ers on August 5 after originally signing with the team on April 7 and then being released on May 2. He entered the NFL signing with the Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted free agent in May of 2013. In two seasons with Cincinnati, DiManche appeared in 28 games and had one start. He had 13 tackles and one pass defended during his time there.
Following his release by the Bengals prior to the start of the 2015 season, DiManche spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs before appearing in one game with the Cleveland Browns. The Browns released him that December and he was then signed to the Bengals' practice squad in January of 2016. DiManche spent the following training camp with the Bengals but was released that August. The next day, he signed with the Detroit Lions before being released on September 3, 2016.
