Liggins joined the NFL when he was signed by the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent on May 12. He remained with Seattle over the offseason but was waived on September 2.
Liggins played college football at the University of Mississippi for three seasons (2014-16) after transferring from Northeast Mississippi Community College. During those three seasons, he appeared in 28 games with seven starts while playing multiple positions. Liggins has spent time as a tight end, wildcat quarterback, and offensive lineman. He finished his college career with 26 carries for 48 yards and two touchdowns to go along with two receptions for 21 yards.
There had been some speculation that the 49ers might try to bring back defensive back Lorenzo Jerome, who was waived by the team on Monday to make room on the active roster for defensive back Dexter McCoil. The team also signed former Cincinnati Bengals and New York Giants defensive back Leon Hall on Tuesday.
Nwachukwu played college football at West Virginia and had 117 total tackles, 26.5 for a loss, 13 sacks, seven passes defensed, and three forced fumbles over four years with the Mountaineers. He was signed as an undrafted free agent following the draft.
