Tight end George Kittle (ankle), wide receiver Trent Taylor (ribs), and defensive end Solomon Thomas (knee) were all inactive for the 49ers' win over the New York Giants on November 12. Shanahan was asked if he expects the trio to return on Sunday against Seattle.
"I hope so," Shanahan answered. "I'm expecting them to. They were all pretty limited on Monday. They're going to be limited today. I could tell the week off really helped them. I don't think they would have been able to play last week, but they're practicing. They're still limited, but I'm hoping they'll go."
Shanahan is not as optimistic about safety Adrian Colbert (thumb).
"Very small chance (of Colbert playing against Seattle)," Shanahan said. "Yeah, very small chance. We haven't ruled him out yet. We'll see. He'd have to practice a little bit this week, but I'm not feeling too optimistic about that."
The 49ers have defensive backs Antone Exum, Dexter McCoil, and Leon Hall who could help fill in during Colbert's absence.
Colbert had an impressive performance against New York. He was among the top five highest-graded 49ers players during the victory, according to Pro Football Focus.
"I think you could see it live on the field," Shanahan said of Colbert. "I'm sure all you guys could. When you watch the tape, it looked just as good, if not better. He played wreckless in a good way, flew around, doesn't hesitate, doesn't flinch, was very aggressive, and plays with a passion that you can tell he's out there enjoying playing. It was fun to watch, and he's got a chance to really help us."
Shanahan is not the only one impressed with Colbert's play. 49ers general manager John Lynch indicated on Tuesday that the rookie safety could figure prominently into the team's future.
"That was a really, really good football game and he displayed some things in that game that are characteristics of a starter and a big-time starter," Lynch said.
