Marsh (6-4, 245) entered the NFL as a fourth-round draft pick by the Seattle Seahawks in 2014. He played college football at UCLA before spending three seasons with Seattle. On September 2, the Seahawks traded Marsh to the Patriots in exchange for 2018 fifth- and seventh-round draft picks. He played in nine games with New England with one start and was credited with 14 tackles and a sack before being waived on Tuesday.
Marsh, who is in his fourth NFL season, has 74 tackles, four sacks, and two forced fumbles during his 46 game appearances. He becomes the second player the 49ers have claimed off of waivers this week. On Monday, the 49ers acquired defensive lineman Sheldon Day from the Jacksonville Jaguars.
It is unknown if the 49ers view Marsh as a defensive end or as an outside linebacker. He spent time at linebacker while with Seattle.
