The decision came after the couple visited the hospital last year with the 49ers. Staley and his wife were so touched by the children and their stories that they decided to make it possible to send one young patient to Super Bowl LII. That patient will be Anuj, who was diagnosed with lymphoma before his junior year of high school. He is a huge fan of the New England Patriots, who will play the Philadelphia Eagles at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota on February 4.
While entry into the year's biggest sporting event is taken care of, travel and accommodations are not. That's why Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford has set up a support page to raise money for the travel and accommodations costs.
As of this post, over 90-percent of the goal has been reached with less than two days remaining in the fundraiser. Any funds collected in excess of those expenses will go toward supporting more events and outings for young cancer patients at the hospital.
The fundraising page, which was retweeted by Staley on Tuesday night, can be found here.
