The San Francisco 49ers were among the teams interested in former Oakland Raiders cornerback David Amerson, who is now off of the market after reportedly signing a one-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday.

As reported by the Sacramento Bee, Amerson's agent named the 49ers as a potential suitor. However, there were no reports of a scheduled visit. The Chicago Bears and the Houston Texans were among the other teams also showing interest in Amerson.

Last year's starters for the 49ers were Ahkello Witherspoon and Dontae Johnson. 2017 was Witherspoon's rookie season while Johnson, whose play was erratic, is scheduled to hit free agency next month.

In what was reported by ESPN's Field Yates as a financial move, Amerson was cut by the Raiders on February 5. The cornerback's base salary of $5.5 million for 2018 would have become fully guaranteed on February 7.

The Washington Redskins selected Amerson out of North Carolina State in the second round of the 2013 draft. The Raiders claimed him after being waived by Washington in 2015. In 2016, Amerson signed a four-year, $35 million extension to remain with Oakland.

Amerson has 56 career starts during his five NFL seasons of experience. Over his career, he has registered 251 combined tackles, eight interceptions, 63 passes defensed, and two forced fumbles. Amerson also returned two interceptions for touchdowns. He has started each of his 21 game appearances over the past two seasons.
