Davis, who is the younger brother of former 49ers and current Washington Redskins tight end, Vernon Davis, was released by the Colts last November after opting to have season-ending surgery. While with Indianapolis, he suffered a groin injury against the Pittsburgh Steelers during the preseason. The injury caused Davis to miss the first three weeks of the 2017 season.
On February 12, Davis was cleared from his core injury surgery, which was performed on November 8, 2017, according to a report by Schefter.
Davis, who is a two-time Pro Bowl selection (2014, 2015), has played in 120 career games while starting 112 games through nine NFL seasons with the Colts and Miami Dolphins. During that span, he has registered 395 combined tackles, 22 interceptions with one returned for a touchdown, 97 passes defensed, and three forced fumbles.
In five games last season, Davis registered 21 combined tackles and two passes defensed.
Davis was the 25th-overall pick by the Dolphins in 2009 and played collegiate football at Illinois. He spent his first three NFL seasons with Miami before being traded to Indianapolis before the start of the 2012 season.
