The newest member of the San Francisco 49ers defense, cornerback Richard Sherman, is excited to get to work. A day after being waived by the Seattle Seahawks, he signed a three-year deal worth up to $39.15 million with the division-rival 49ers.

"I'm excited. A lot of HOF DBs have gone through this incredible organization and I am looking to uphold that standard," Sherman told Steve Wyche of NFL Network via text message.

Other than the potential money he can earn over the next three seasons, the idea of facing the Seahawks twice a year had to be an incentive as well.

As for fans of both franchises, reactions to the signing are mixed. But if Sherman is healthy at that start of the 2018 season, the 49ers are getting a four-time Pro Bowl selection, three-time first-team All-Pro, and Super Bowl champion who can be a leader on defense.


Plus, as Cam Inman of Bay Area News Group pointed out, there aren't a whole lot of fans outside of Levi's Stadium protesting the signing.

Defensive end Cassius Marsh, a former Seahawks player and teammate of Sherman's (2014-2016), was one of several 49ers players who congratulated the veteran cornerback via Twitter on Saturday night. He told Sherman he couldn't wait to get to work.

"You know I'm excited to get to work!!!" Sherman responded. "Got some winning to do."
