Free agency is not set to begin until Wednesday at 1 p.m. PT officially, but the NFL landscape is already changing. Teams have been able to reach out to players' agents to discuss interest and negotiate potential contracts since Monday at 9 a.m. PT and fans already know where some of the top free agents are headed.

Where do the San Francisco 49ers stand with just hours left until the start of the new league year, which kicks off free agency frenzy? Below is a breakdown.

Returning 49ers


The following players, who were under contract with the 49ers in 2017, were set to become unrestricted free agents. They were signed to extensions. The list does not include running back Raheem Mostert, who signed his one-year exclusive rights tender on Monday, or wide receiver Marquise Goodwin, who was still under contract in 2018 when he signed an extension.

Jimmy Garoppolo, QB
Signed a five-year deal worth $137.5 million on February 8.


Garry Gilliam, T/G
Signed a two-year deal worth $8 million on February 27.

Daniel Kilgore, C
Signed a three-year deal worth $11.78 million with $7.05 million guaranteed on February 14.

Cassius Marsh, DE
Signed a two-year deal worth $12.7 million with $3.1 million guaranteed on February 7.

Mark Nzeocha, LB
Signed a one-year deal worth $705,000 on January 26.

Signed a three-year deal worth $39.15 million with a $2 million signing bonus on March 10.

The following players have reportedly agreed to terms with the 49ers and will sign after the official start of free agency.

Jerick McKinnon, RB, Vikings
Will reportedly sign a four-year deal worth $30 million, according to Peter Schrager of NFL Network and Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The 49ers were reportedly interested in the following players and had inquired about signing them. These players opted to sign elsewhere.
