Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported it was a deal for three-years and a maximum value of $30 million. Regardless of the actual numbers, he is off of the market with about an hour before the official start of free agency.
On Monday, it was reported by David Lombardi of The Athletic that the 49ers were expressing interest in Murphy. Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee stated the 49ers were looking more at a deal roughly half the cost of the one Schefter reported. If true, the San Francisco probably wasn't in the conversation for very long.
Murphy (27 years old, 6-6, 259), who played college football locally at Stanford, was a second-round draft pick by Washington in 2014. In the three seasons between 2014 and 2016, he registered 112 combined tackles, 15 sacks, two passes defensed, and six forced fumbles.
In 2017, Murphy faced a four-game suspension for violating the league's performance-enhancing drugs policy but suffered a torn ACL and MCL in his left knee during the preseason. Murphy was placed on injured reserve, which forced him to miss the entire season.
During his last full season (2016), Murphy had career-highs of 47 combined tackles, nine sacks, and three forced fumbles in 16 game appearances.
