"Jeremiah has been quite disruptive during his career despite his limited opportunities playing behind some top-tier defensive ends," said general manager John Lynch via a statement issued by the team. "He is a wonderful fit for our scheme and our locker room. We expect Jeremiah to be productive on defense, while also providing us an exceptional player on special teams. He's another guy who fits the mold of a 49er."
The deal is worth up to $5.125 million with $2.5 million fully guaranteed, according to a report by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
The Chargers made Attaochu a second-round draft pick out of Georgia Tech in 2014. In his four NFL seasons with the Chargers, he appeared in 38 games with 13 starts while registering 83 combined tackles, 10 sacks, two passes defensed, and two forced fumbles.

Attaochu's best season came in 2015 when he started 12 games for the Chargers and recorded career-highs in tackles (55) and sacks (6). In 2016, he missed three games due to a sprained ankle sustained in Week 6 and then suffered a broken foot in Week 10, which landed him on injured reserve. He only played in eight games that season.
Attaochu was healthy in 2017 but played in only four games.
The 49ers are in need of pass rushers. The team opted not to pick up the 2018 option for the team's sack leader from last season, Elvis Dumervil.
