"Linebacker Uchenna Nwosu had one of the better performances today that few are mentioning, in large part due to the Darnold hype," wrote Pauline. "Nwosu looked terrific in linebacker drills and impressed everyone on hand. He was highly sought after and since yesterday, Nwosu interviewed extensively with the Tennessee Titans, Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings, San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints.
"The New York Jets, who had their general manager, head coach and linebackers coach on hand, wanted to meet with Nwosu but his schedule was booked solid and no room could be found."
Nwosu had a breakout season with the Trojans in 2017 while registering 75 combined tackles, 11.5 for a loss, 9.5 sacks, 13 passes defensed, and an interception. In his first season as a starter in 2016, he recorded 53 combined tackles, 7.5 for a loss, three sacks, and five passes defensed.
At the NFL Scouting Combine, the 6-foot-3 and 251-pound Nwosu had a 40-time of 4.65 seconds, a vertical jump of 32 inches, a broad jump of 119 inches, and had 20 reps in the bench press. Other measurables for Nwosu include an arm length of 33 5/8 inches and hands that measure 9 inches.
NFL.com projects that Nwosu will be a third- or fourth-round selection in the draft.
Lance Zierlein of NFL Media, who compares Nwosu to Kamalei Correa, had the following to say in his scouting report:
"Flashes the athletic traits and speed off the edge that teams will be looking for but the overall tape is very uneven. Nwosu may not have the edge strength to handle run downs, however, if he tests well at the Combine as expected, teams may fall in love with his burst and eyeball a future role as a designated pass rusher."
