Oplinger played for seasons for the Bulldogs while registering 194 combined tackles, 12 passes defensed, and 20.5 sacks. 11.5 of those sacks came during a breakout 2017 season where he also recorded 42 combined tackles and a pass defensed. His tackle total last season ranked fourth on the defense, and his sack total led the Ivy League.
"Oplinger measured 6-2/250 pounds, completed 25 reps on the bench press, touched 32 inches in the vertical jump as well as an impressive 10-feet-5-inches in the broad jump," wrote Pauline. "He timed 4.75s in the forty, 4.49s in the short shuttle and 7.38s in the three cone then looked real good in drills. Oplinger, who could land in the final rounds of the draft, is scheduled to workout for the New Orleans Saints."
Oplinger had a team-high 14.5 tackles for a loss in 2017 and three sacks against Holy Cross, which includes a safety. He was named the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year in December.
"We saw him grow as a person and player week in and week out," said Yale head coach Tony Reno in November. "He was showing guys the way to do things right. It's an honor to have him here as part of the Yale football family."
