Tuioti-Mariner took on a leadership role on the Bruins defense after fellow senior Matt Dickerson injured his collarbone in October. In 13 games last season playing at the right defensive end position, Tuioti-Mariner accumulated 52 combined tackles, 9.5 for a loss, 7.5 sacks, a pass defensed, and two fumble recoveries, according to Sports Reference.
The 6-foot-2 and 285-pound Tuioti-Mariner played sparingly during his freshman year. Over the next three years, he registered 128 combined tackles, 18 for a loss, 12.5 sacks, three passes defensed, and four fumble recoveries.
While UCLA allowed 282.7 rushing yards per game, which was second-worst in the country, Tuioti-Mariner has steadily improved each year. He had career highs in tackles, tackles for a loss, and sacks in 2017.
Tuioti-Mariner, who credits his progress to rigorous film study, is a versatile player who contributed all along the Bruins' defensive line during his time at UCLA. He's considered a prospect that can provide to the pass rush, move inside on third downs, and be a valuable player in a defensive line rotation.
