He started 13 games at center as a senior for the Mustangs in 2017 on an offense that ranked 12th in the nation in scoring, 15th in total offense, and 19th in passing. As a junior, he started all 12 games at center for SMU and started 12 games at right guard as a sophomore in 2015.
Gentry (6-6, 310) posted a 5.14-second 40-time and 28 repetitions on the bench press at the SMU pro day. He played along the Mustangs' defensive line while compiling 107 combined tackles, eight for a loss, 4.5 sacks, and four passes defensed in four seasons. Gentry has the size to possibly play guard for an NFL team.
