The San Francisco 49ers will hold a pre-draft visit with pass rusher Tremaine Edmunds of Virginia Tech this week, according to a report from the Sacramento Bee. As reported earlier, the 49ers are hosting former Georgia linebacker Roquan Smith today.

This week is the last that NFL teams can host draft prospects for visits. The 2018 NFL Draft kicks off next Thursday. Each NFL team is permitted to host up to 30 players for visits. Those players are not allowed to work out for the team unless they are local prospects.

Edmunds played in 13 games and started twice as a true freshman. That season, he registered 11 total tackles with 2.5 for a loss, according to Sports Reference. As a sophomore in 2016, Edmunds recorded 94 total tackles, 16.5 for loss, 4.5 sacks, three passes defensed, and an interception. As a junior in 2017, he had a college-career-best 108 total tackles, 14 for a loss, 5.5 sacks, two passes defensed, and three forced fumbles.

NFL.com projects Edmunds to be a first-round draft pick.

Lance Zierlein of NFL.com, who compares Edmunds to Brian Urlacher, wrote the following within his scouting report:

"Edmunds combines elite size, speed and explosiveness into a productive, versatile linebacker package that will have evaluators salivating. Edmunds has posted high-impact production over the last two seasons and he still has room to get bigger and better. He will make mental mistakes and his instincts are subpar, but he has an ability to mitigate those issues with his athletic ability. Edmunds can play in any alignment at any linebacker spot and has All-Pro potential no matter where he lands."

Tony Pauline of Draft Analyst wrote the following within his scouting report:

"Edmunds was a playmaking linebacker the past two seasons at Virginia Tech and has the ability to be a dominant defender. His combination of size, athleticism and sheer force has next-level decision makers salivating. Edmonds offers potential at a variety of linebacker spots and is versatile enough to play in a number of defensive schemes as a three-down player."
