McFadden allowed seven touchdowns during his sophomore year, which was his first as a starter. However, he also accumulated eight interceptions, which led the NCAA. In 2017, he registered 30 combined tackles with 10 passes defensed but failed to pick off a quarterback.

At the NFL Scouting Combine, the 6-foot-2 and 198-pound McFadden had a 40-time of 4.67 seconds, a vertical jump of 38.5 inches, and a broad jump of 121 inches.
NFL.com projects McFadden to be a fifth- or sixth-round draft pick.
Lance Zierlein of NFL.com, who compares McFadden to Patrick Robinson, wrote the following within his scouting report:
"Press corner with long arms and disruptive qualities but lacking in foot quickness and makeup speed. McFadden put together a highlight reel of impressive interceptions with NFL-caliber ball skills, but his ball production dropped sharply this year. On top of that, his 4.68 forty at the Combine seemed to prove what the tape showed regarding his long speed or lack thereof. McFadden has cover talent, but may be forced into a zone scheme to cover up for his speed concerns. McFadden will need to tighten up his coverage technique and become a much better tackler in order to find meaningful snaps as a pro."
Tony Pauline of Draft Analyst wrote the following within his scouting report:
"McFadden possesses the size and ball skills to play at the next level, but playing speed is a concern. He offers possibilities in bump-and-run and potentially zone coverage but must be protected due to his lack of speed."
