The San Francisco 49ers worked out defensive back Kameron Kelly from San Diego State, according to a report from the Houston Chronicle. He primarily played safety in college but also lined up at cornerback and is seen by many as the latter at the NFL level.


Kelly played for the Aztecs as a true freshman before missing six games due to an injury. As a sophomore, he started all 13 games while registering 58 combined tackles with two interceptions. Kelly hauled in eight more interceptions over the next two seasons, including five as a junior.

At the NFL Scouting Combine, the 6-foot-2 and 204-pound Kelly had a 40-time of 4.66 seconds, a vertical jump of 33 inches, a broad jump of 120 inches, completed the three-cone drill in 6.94 seconds, had 9 reps in the bench press, and a 20-yard shuttle time of 4.28 seconds. Other measurables for Kelly include an arm length of 31 3/4 inches and hands that measure 8 7/8 inches.

NFL.com projects Kelly to be a fourth-round draft pick.




Lance Zierlein of NFL.com wrote the following about Kelly within his scouting report:

"Sources say there are teams out there who are enamored with the idea of playing Kelly at cornerback to take advantage of his length and ball skills. If he gets drafted to play corner, he will require patience as he lacks experience and movement skills to hold up against NFL route-runners. As a safety, teams like his range and ball skills to take it away and flip the field. Kelly's success could be tied to positional and scheme fit more than most."

Tony Pauline of Draft Analyst wrote the following about Kelly within his scouting report:

"Kelly was a productive defensive back who lined up at both cornerback and safety. He offers potential in a zone system where he can face the action and be protected."
