The San Francisco 49ers kicked off their 2018 preseason with a 24-21 victory over the visiting Dallas Cowboys at Levi's Stadium on Thursday night.

Key Player Statistics


Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was 3-of-6 passing for 34 yards. C.J. Beathard was 10-of-20 for 181 yards and an interception. Nick Mullens, who led the game-winning drive for the 49ers, was 11-of-13 for 141 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.

Beathard and rookie wide receiver Dante Pettis made several attempts throughout the game to connect deep, but they only found success once. Pettis found himself wide open early in the third quarter, beating Jourdan Lewis for a 53-yard gain.


Wide receiver Richie James, who scored the winning touchdown in the game, was an impressive target. 49ers quarterbacks had a 150.4 passer rating when targeting the rookie receiver.

James led the 49ers in receptions (4) while Victor Bolden led in receiving yards (54).

Running back Raheem Mostert carried the football eight times for 57 yards. Joe Williams and Jeremy McNichols each had touchdowns.

Running back Jerick McKinnon couldn't get anything going. He had -4 yards in three rushing attempts.

Mike Person, who is competing for the starting right guard job, played in 38 snaps and did not allow a quarterback pressure in 25 pass-blocking attempts.


Linebacker Reuben Foster recorded two solo tackles and had an impressive pass breakup on a deep crossing route in zone coverage.

Cornerback Jimmie Ward gave up a 30-yard touchdown to Michael Gallup on the Cowboys' opening drive.

Rookie defensive lineman Jullian Taylor played in 32 snaps while registering a quarterback sack, a hit, and a hurry in 20 pass rush attempts. He also had three stops which tied a team-high during the game.

Linebacker Pita Taumoepenu only played four run snaps against the Cowboys but compiled three tackles, all of which resulted in stops.

Defensive linemen DeForest Buckner and Solomon Thomas combined for a sack.


Key Team Statistics


The 49ers offense combined for 454 total net yards, 356 of which were through the air.

If you take away Dak Prescott's 12-yard scramble, the 49ers defense allowed just 93 rushing yards on 28 attempts.
