The MRI on Breida's shoulder showed no structural damage, according to a report by Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
As Pelissero reports, the 49ers are hopeful Breida can be ready for the season opener against the Minnesota Vikings and could even return to (limited) practice soon.
Breida had one carry for three yards against the Cowboys on Thursday night.
The 49ers signed Breida as an undrafted free agent in 2017. He carried the football 105 times for 465 yards with two touchdowns during his rookie campaign. Breida also added 21 receptions for 180 yards and a touchdown.
"Matt Breida, he's a different bird," Shanahan said last week. "It doesn't matter what you do. He's that guy who's going to work as hard as he can no matter what – if he's by himself, if he's in front of everyone, if he's the starting back or the last back.
"We got him as an undrafted free agent. You could tell the first day of rookie minicamp that not only was he talented but he's got a special mindset and stuff, and that's why he's gotten so much better here in a year."
