Linebacker Malcolm Smith has been dealing with a hamstring injury since the San Francisco 49ers exhibition opener on August 9. He will likely be ready to play in Sunday's regular-season opener against the Minnesota Vikings, according to defensive coordinator Robert Saleh.

"He's going through practice today and everything looks good for gameday," Saleh told reporters on Thursday.

Smith was limited during practice on Wednesday. Should he be able to play in Minnesota, he will likely line up next to rookie linebacker Fred Warner.

The 49ers Communications staff released the team's first unofficial regular-season depth chart this week with Smith listed at WILL, Warner listed at MIKE in place of suspended Reuben Foster, and Mark Nzeocha at SAM.
