San Francisco 49ers running back Matt Breida has earned his first league-sponsored award and been named the FedEx Ground Player of the Week, according to Nick Wagoner of ESPN.

Breida is coming off of a 138-yard, one touchdown performance against the Detroit Lions where he averaged 12.5 yards per attempt. The score came on a 66-yard run, and the running back added 21 more yards on three receptions.

Breida was up against Tevin Coleman of the Atlanta Falcons and Phillip Lindsay of the Denver Broncos, both of who had 107 rushing yards against their respective Week 2 opponents.

The 49ers signed Breida as an undrafted free agent out of Georgia Southern last year. He has registered 649 rushing yards on 127 carries over his career with three touchdowns while catching 25 passes for 206 yards and a score.

Breida has a league-leading 184 rushing yards on 22 carries with a touchdown through two games this season. He also has four receptions for 26 yards.

Breida only has around 12,000 followers on Twitter and isn't yet a household name. What does he have to do to change that?

"I guess I just have to win a rushing title this year," Breida told Andrew Siciliano this week on NFL Network's "Up to the Minute."
